WMF / Geislingen - Jardinière - 1900 1910 - Versilbert, Messing

WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) – Rare Silver-Plated Jardinière with Original Cobalt Blue Glass – Germany, circa 1900 A striking and highly collectible WMF jardinière / centerpiece, dating to the early 20th century (circa 1900–1910). This elegant piece immediately stands out through the dramatic contrast between the brilliant silver-plated frame and the deep cobalt blue glass liner, a combination highly sought after by collectors. The design is executed in a refined Neoclassical / Louis XVI revival style, a decorative vocabulary that became extremely popular around 1900. The body features a beautifully pierced gallery with reeded pilasters, draped garlands, and delicate bead borders, creating an architectural rhythm reminiscent of classical balustrades. The sweeping curved form enhances the sense of elegance and balance, while the openwork construction gives the piece a light and sophisticated appearance. The jardinière rests on four elegant feet and was originally intended as a table centerpiece for flowers, though it also works beautifully for fruit, sweets, or purely decorative display. Pieces with their original cobalt glass insert still present are becoming increasingly scarce, making this example particularly attractive. Founded in 1853 in Geislingen, Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) quickly became one of Europe’s leading producers of high-quality silver-plated objects. Around the turn of the century, WMF gained international recognition for its combination of superb craftsmanship, innovative design, and luxurious finishing. Many of its decorative objects were exported across Europe and beyond, and today they remain highly appreciated by collectors. The underside bears the WMF mark with the I/O plating designation, confirming authentic early WMF production and quality silver plating over base metal. Condition: Excellent antique condition. The original cobalt glass liner is intact and free of cracks. One minor chip above, A particularly well-preserved example. Dimensions: 6.5 x 20.5 x 6 cm (h x w x d) An elegant and rare WMF centerpiece with original cobalt glass, combining classical design with exceptional craftsmanship — a true eye-catcher and a desirable addition to any collection of Art Nouveau or early 20th-century decorative metalwork.
