Kamakura-bori-Lackware-Kommode mit drei Schubladen und Pfingstrose — Japanische Handwerks-Schmuckbox - Holz, Lack - Japan - 1900–2000

Item Description This is a beautifully crafted Kamakura-bori (鎌倉彫) three-drawer chest featuring an elaborate peony (botan) motif hand-carved across the front panels. Kamakura-bori is a celebrated Japanese lacquerware tradition originating in the Kamakura period, in which skilled artisans carve intricate designs into solid wood before applying multiple layers of urushi lacquer. The striking result — deep crimson red beneath a rich black-brown surface — is characteristic of this revered craft. The exterior is covered entirely in a distinctive tortoiseshell-scale (kikko) carved background pattern, against which a bold, flowing peony blossom unfolds dramatically across all three drawer fronts, creating a sense of elegant continuity. The three drawers operate smoothly and are fitted with simple, refined black wooden handles. The interior of each drawer is finished in natural, unvarnished wood, offering a warm contrast to the dark lacquered exterior. The back panel reveals the natural wood grain, and the piece rests on a low, flat plinth base. This compact yet visually powerful chest would serve equally well as a jewelry box, accessories organizer, or a decorative object in any interior. Size Height: 25 cm Width: 22.5 cm Depth: 24 cm Weight 1,842 g Condition The piece is in good used condition overall; the drawers open and close smoothly with no sticking. Minor scratches, light scuff marks, and small chips to the lacquer are visible upon close inspection, particularly at the corners and edges, consistent with age and prior household use. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
