Antique Tibetan Ghau – Portable Shrine with Tsa-Tsa, Mantra Scrolls and Ritual Amulets – 9.5 cm A rarely complete ensemble of Tibetan Buddhist craftsmanship. An authentic Ghau (portable travel shrine) from the early 20th century (or possibly earlier). These shrines were worn by nomads or pilgrims in the Himalayan region for protection and devotion during their travels. What makes this lot exceptional is that the original religious contents have remained completely intact. While many Ghau boxes are offered empty, this specimen still contains all the ritual elements: • The Shrine: Crafted from brass/copper with a beautiful deep patina. The front features the characteristic cloud-shaped window. • The Tsa-Tsa: A clay or metal relief image of a wrathful protector deity (likely Vajrapani), set against a flaming mandorla. • Mantra Scrolls: Handwritten Tibetan prayer scrolls on traditional paper, bearing an authentic red wax seal from a monastery or lama. • Ritual Amulet: A package wrapped in five-colored thread (often containing herbs or sacred texts) and a piece of blessed red silk.
