Shudeichawan 朱泥茶碗 (しゅでいちゃわん) | Tanaka Ikko 田中一晃 (たなかいっこう)
This tea bowl is made of Shudei, a red clay rich in iron commonly used in Tokoname ware. The surface features Yohenumemon (kiln-transformed plum crest) decorations, a technique where temperature variations and flame contact create specific color patterns on the plum motifs. The bowl is sized for practical use in tea ceremonies.
Artist Profile:
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1933. In 2000, his work was exhibited at the Saga Prefecture Ceramics Exhibition held at the British Museum. He focused on the principle that pottery should be functional and maintained a philosophy of lifelong apprenticeship.
