Johann Karl Hedlinger (1691–1771) is widely regarded as the greatest living medallist of his time, produced medals of unmatched craftsmanship, combining superior engraving with the finest Swedish silver. Mechel’s catalogue of Hedlinger’s collection, largely Swedish but also including Russian, Danish, Prussian, and English examples, documents these works, which remain among the foremost in European numismatic and rarities collections. Rubbing and offsetting to covers; damp staining; roughly cut pages with small tears; plate 40 slightly loose at top. This book belonged to Sir Robert Wilmot of Osmaston, Derbyshire, with his 18th-century armorial bookplate.
