The Viking battle axe was a key weapon of the era (8th–11th centuries), distinguished by its lightness, sharpness, and versatility.
Characterized by a downward protrusion of the blade ("beard"), which allowed it to hook an opponent's shields or legs, providing an advantage in close combat.
The blades were thin for deep penetration, unlike heavy utility axes.
Axes were not only weapons but also a status symbol.
Used to break shields, chainmail, and helmets, they were the primary offensive weapon of northern warriors.
Viking battle axes enjoyed a high reputation and were used over vast territories.
The axe was professionally cleaned of rust, corrosion, and oxidation. It was carefully treated with German-made BALLISTOL gun oil, which creates an alkaline protective film and prevents corrosion and metal deterioration.
This is a beautiful example of a Viking battle axe. The metal is strong and resonant. There are signs of wear consistent with age and use. 100% authentic. Please see the numerous photographs to form your own impression.
