Description:
Like a vertical spectrum caught mid transformation, this tourmaline crystal presents a rare and finely balanced progression of colour, as if light itself had been gradually absorbed and redefined during each stage of its growth. Rather than displaying a single dominant tone, the crystal unfolds as a sequence, each layer recording a distinct chemical moment within the same geological environment.
At its base, a delicate rose pink emerges with soft transparency, gentle and luminous, allowing light to pass through with a subtle internal glow. This lower section carries a refined pastel quality, never saturated, yet clearly defined, establishing the foundation of the crystal’s chromatic identity.
As the crystal rises, the colour transitions into a cool blue green zone, a tone that sits between aqua and teal. This मध्य section introduces a fresh and fluid character, where the blue influence becomes evident without overpowering the structure. The transition from pink to blue green is gradual and natural, creating a seamless chromatic dialogue along the vertical axis.
Above this, the colour deepens into a more concentrated violet phase, adding intensity and visual weight to the composition. This upper section carries a richer saturation, introducing contrast while maintaining coherence with the underlying tones.
The termination culminates in a darker zone approaching midnight blue, dense and contemplative, anchoring the crystal with a strong visual presence. This final stage reflects a late growth environment shift, completing the vertical evolution of colour in a way that feels both structured and organic.
The crystal itself displays a well defined prismatic habit, with fine longitudinal striations running consistently along its faces. These natural growth lines reinforce the vertical orientation of the zoning and create a direct relationship between external morphology and internal colour structure.
Despite its modest size, the specimen carries exceptional visual complexity. The coexistence of pink, blue green, violet and deep blue within a single crystal, aligned along the natural growth axis, gives it a level of refinement and rarity that stands well above common zoned tourmalines.

• Highly photogenic due to colour layering
• Representative of complex pegmatitic growth conditions
Collector’s Interest:
Tricolour elbaite tourmalines displaying clear longitudinal zoning are significantly less common than standard bicolour material, particularly when the transition between tones remains gradual and visually legible.
Material from Itinga is renowned for producing complex and expressive tourmalines, and specimens combining pink, blue green and violet within a single crystal represent a more unusual and desirable subset. The presence of a darker terminal zone further enhances the aesthetic balance, adding depth and contrast.
This piece is especially appealing for collectors focused on colour evolution, zoning phenomena and naturally recorded growth sequences within pegmatitic minerals.
Lapidary Potential:
Although the internal colour zoning offers conceptual interest for cutting, preserving the full sequence of colours in a faceted stone would be technically demanding and would likely compromise the natural relationship between zones.
The crystal is therefore far more valuable as a natural specimen, where its full chromatic progression and geological history remain intact and fully visible.

Photography and transparency:
All photographs are taken under controlled lighting conditions using a macro lens, carefully selected to present each specimen as accurately as possible.
No filters, colour enhancement, or artificial saturation are applied.
The lighting setup uses a calibrated 5500K light source, replicating neutral daylight to reveal natural tones, surface features, and internal characteristics. Under warmer or weaker indoor lighting, colours may appear slightly different, which is normal.
The purpose of this photographic process is documentation and representation, not visual enhancement. Images are intended to reflect the specimen faithfully as it appears under balanced natural light conditions.
Identification and ethics:
All specimens offered are natural and described to the best of our knowledge, based on direct sourcing, professional experience, and information provided by trusted suppliers working at the origin.
Every effort is made to ensure transparency and accuracy regarding identification, locality, and general characteristics, avoiding misleading statements about treatment, provenance, or nature.
Customs and import taxes:
Any customs duties, import fees, or local taxes applied by the destination country are entirely the responsibility of the winning bidder.
These charges are not included in the auction price or shipping cost and are determined by the buyer’s local authorities.
Guarantee and resolution:
Customer satisfaction is important. In the unlikely event of an issue such as loss, damage, or discrepancy, please contact us promptly through Catawiki’s messaging system.
Each case is handled individually and fairly, with appropriate solutions offered when justified.
Appreciation and commitment:
We sincerely thank you for your trust. Our work focuses on careful selection, accurate representation, and respectful presentation of mineral specimens with character and interest.
Each piece is chosen for its individual qualities rather than speculative or financial considerations. We aim to provide a transparent, reliable, and consistent experience for collectors at all levels.
