Carved long shaped rectangular Chinese Seal –China- Qing period On offer is a fine good quality yellow Chinese soft stone Seal with a semi-translucent structure, showing some red-brown colored veins. The stone is, or resembles Tianhuang stone. One side of the seal is engraved with many characters and marked. The face of the seal is carved with Chinese characters. Free translation: “The true essence of learning Han Dynasty seal carving lies in its inherent profound and robust spirit. It requires wrist strenghth to express the brittle and unrefined characteristics of the stone. The mottled surface is not the core; this seemingly plain and unadorned profound and robust feeling is the highest realm.” Recently, we had the privilege of acquiring a richly varied collection of old/antique Chinese stone seals. They consist of good quality authentic Chinese seals made from various colored mineral stones, including possibly shoushan stone (larderite).
