Pancho Porto (Santiago de Compostela, 1988) began his training in the field of artistic cabinetmaking at the Antonio Failde center in Ourense. In this school he first came into contact with disciplines such as carving, drawing or modeling, and, more importantly, with work in the workshop.
Later he enrolled at the Escola de Artes e Oficios Mestre Mateo in Santiago de Compostela, where he studied what would in the future be his main discipline: sculpture. It is at this school that he already works with materials that will be fundamental in his work, such as steel or clay. Parallel to this, Porto continues his studies independently and investigates other materials such as bronze or resins and their multiple uses and finishes, ultimately deciding on bronze and steel as the definitive materials for his works.
After this initial training phase, he decides to set up his workshop on the banks of the Sarela River, very close to where he was born. It is here that he begins his particular theoretical and practical investigation of the relationship between the materials used in each work and the message they convey. This leads him to seek new approaches to communicating and narrating his story. Since then, this has been the usual tone of his works, adding complexity and depth to his entire body of work, with themes that touch both the social sphere and his personal experiences.
