Joseph Elliot & Sons, Cutlers - Schnitzset (5) Edwardianischer Stil

Vintage Joseph Elliot & Sons Sheffield 5-Piece Carving / Roast Set – Steel Blades, Silver-Plated Ferrules, Ivory-Style Handles in Original Box This elegant 5-piece roast and carving set was made by the well-known English cutlery manufacturer “Joseph Elliot & Sons, Cutlers, Sheffield”. The set consists of: - Two carving knives (larger and smaller) - Two two-pronged carving forks - One meat-holding pin (used to securely hold large joints of meat while carving) The pieces are clearly stamped “Joseph Elliot & Sons, Cutlers, Sheffield” with the firm’s distinctive cross trademark. They are presented in the original fitted case with rich red velvet lining and a black exterior with gold trim. This example, with its traditional design and presentation, likely dates from the early to mid-20th century – a period when Sheffield craftsmanship was still highly prized for formal dining. - Materials: - Blades and fork tines: Polished steel (magnetic, as confirmed by magnet test – designed for sharpness and practical use) - Ferrules (the metal collars between blade and handle): Silver-plated nickel silver (also attracts a magnet due to the base alloy and thin plating) - Handles: Smooth creamy ivory-style (likely celluloid or a similar synthetic material, common in mid-20th century English sets for its elegant look and durability) - Weight: 1154 g - Box dimensions: approx. 41 × 17.5 × 4.5 cm - Largest knife length: 33 cm - Condition: Good vintage condition with attractive patina. The pieces show normal signs of age and light use; the original box is intact with minor wear consistent with its age. The lid is a bit loose, but still attached. A timeless piece of English cutlery history, perfect for collectors of Sheffield ware, traditional table settings, or as sophisticated classic home decor. Rare to find a full 5-piece set still complete with its original case. This old set embodies the enduring quality and elegance of British craftsmanship. Buyer note: All items are carefully inspected, accurately photographed from multiple angles, and professionally packed with extra protection before shipping. Buyers are kindly requested to make a short video of the package opening and then inspect the item promptly. Please contact me with clear photos or video (including packaging) if any issue arises. The item is sold as shown and described. Thank you for your understanding.
