Description:
There are greens that appear in nature… and there are greens that seem almost impossible. This tsavorite belongs unmistakably to the latter.
Emerging from the legendary metamorphic terrains of the Tsavo region, this natural tsavorite displays a chromatic intensity that immediately commands attention. The colour is a vivid, highly saturated emerald green driven by chromium, producing a luminous spectrum that sits at the most desirable end of the tsavorite colour range. Under illumination the stone ignites with a striking internal brightness, as if the green were lit from within rather than merely reflecting light.
The crystal presents a bold freeform morphology shaped by natural growth and fresh fracture architecture. Rather than forming a single geometric crystal, the piece expresses a sculptural structure composed of angular planes, stepped surfaces and intersecting edges that reveal the dynamic internal structure of the garnet. These planes create an interplay of light and shadow across the surface, generating vivid flashes of vitreous lustre as illumination moves across the crystal.
One side reveals a shallow concave growth depression surrounded by curved fracture contours, a natural feature that adds geological character and depth to the specimen. From other angles the stone exposes sharp crystalline ridges and structural terraces that emphasise the mineral’s natural formation rather than artificial shaping.
Internally, the colour architecture shows remarkable vitality. The emerald green saturation remains strong throughout the body while light penetrates selectively through translucent zones, activating deeper layers of colour and producing subtle tonal shifts between electric emerald and richer forest green sectors. This interaction between internal structure and light creates a vivid sense of depth rarely seen in natural garnet rough.
Small mineral inclusions and surface growth textures remain visible, reinforcing the authenticity of the crystal and its natural geological origin within the high grade metamorphic environments characteristic of Tsavo. These features are typical of chromium rich tsavorite formation and serve as confirmation of its untreated natural state.
Tsavorite from the Tsavo region remains the definitive reference for fine green garnet, and this crystal expresses exactly why: uncompromising saturation, strong internal luminosity and a raw mineral architecture that captures the geological forces responsible for its creation.

Collector’s Interest:
Tsavorite from Tsavo remains one of the most coveted garnets in the world due to its uniquely vivid chromium driven green. Crystals that combine strong saturation, internal luminosity and expressive natural morphology are particularly valued by collectors who appreciate both gem potential and mineralogical authenticity.
This specimen offers exactly that convergence. Its intense emerald green colour, combined with sculptural natural surfaces and visible geological features, makes it a compelling example of East African tsavorite in its natural state.
Within curated collections of garnets, African gemstones or chromium coloured minerals, such pieces stand as clear representations of the extraordinary conditions that produced tsavorite in the Tsavo metamorphic belt.
Lapidary Potential:
The colour concentration present in this crystal suggests excellent potential for a vivid faceted gemstone should cutting ever be considered.
Because tsavorite retains colour exceptionally well after cutting, material of this saturation can produce finished stones with remarkable brilliance and vivid emerald green intensity. Nevertheless, the crystal already possesses strong visual presence in its natural state, where its sculptural structure and geological authenticity remain fully preserved.

Shipping and Handling:
All orders are shipped by Portuguese National Post.
• Dispatch time: within 1 to 3 business days after payment confirmation to Catawiki
• Transit time with CTT service: between 5 to 7 business days within europe and worldwide, depending on destination national post.

Photography and transparency:
All photographs are taken under controlled lighting conditions using a macro lens, carefully selected to present each specimen as accurately as possible.
No filters, colour enhancement, or artificial saturation are applied.
The lighting setup uses a calibrated 5500K light source, replicating neutral daylight to reveal natural tones, surface features, and internal characteristics. Under warmer or weaker indoor lighting, colours may appear slightly different, which is normal.
The purpose of this photographic process is documentation and representation, not visual enhancement. Images are intended to reflect the specimen faithfully as it appears under balanced natural light conditions.
Identification and ethics:
All specimens offered are natural and described to the best of our knowledge, based on direct sourcing, professional experience, and information provided by trusted suppliers working at the origin.
Every effort is made to ensure transparency and accuracy regarding identification, locality, and general characteristics, avoiding misleading statements about treatment, provenance, or nature.
Customs and import taxes:
Any customs duties, import fees, or local taxes applied by the destination country are entirely the responsibility of the winning bidder.
These charges are not included in the auction price or shipping cost and are determined by the buyer’s local authorities.
Guarantee and resolution:
Customer satisfaction is important. In the unlikely event of an issue such as loss, damage, or discrepancy, please contact us promptly through Catawiki’s messaging system.
Each case is handled individually and fairly, with appropriate solutions offered when justified.
Appreciation and commitment:
We sincerely thank you for your trust. Our work focuses on careful selection, accurate representation, and respectful presentation of mineral specimens with character and interest.
Each piece is chosen for its individual qualities rather than speculative or financial considerations. We aim to provide a transparent, reliable, and consistent experience for collectors at all levels.
