A large devotional sculpture depicting the Pietà – the Virgin Mary holding the body of Christ. The object is presented in a niche-like structure and bears the date “1705” on the lower section. Based on expert assessment, the piece is likely to date from around 1900 and was cast or moulded rather than carved. Visible firing traces further support a production in fired material. With a substantial weight of approximately 33 kg, the sculpture has a strong physical presence. The surface shows wear, deposits and aging consistent with its age and material. The style reflects traditional European devotional art, inspired by earlier Baroque models, commonly used in private religious settings, wall niches or small chapels. A decorative and characterful religious object, combining historical reference with later craftsmanship.
