Antike japanische Eisen-Hängelaterne mit Paulownia-Holz-Durchbruchpaneelen - Eisen (Gusseisen/ Schmiedeeisen) - Japan - Meiji Periode (1868-1912)

Item Description: A fine antique Japanese hanging lantern (tsuri-dōrō / 吊灯籠), crafted entirely in iron and dating to the Meiji or Taisho period. This substantial four-sided (shihō) lantern features beautifully worked open-work panels (sukashi) in a kiri (paulownia) motif — a classic Japanese decorative symbol associated with nobility, auspiciousness, and refined taste. The paulownia crest, historically used by the imperial court and prominent families, lends this piece an air of distinguished heritage. The lantern is of considerable size and weight (approximately 4.1 kg), attesting to the quality of its hand-wrought ironwork construction. It was designed to be suspended — a traditional format used in Japanese garden paths (roji), temple approaches, and aristocratic residences to provide soft, atmospheric illumination. The aged patina of the iron surface, with its deep, time-worn character, adds to the authenticity and visual presence of the piece. An outstanding example of Japanese kinkō (metal craft) from the classical period, this lantern would make a dramatic statement as a decorative hanging object or a centrepiece in a Japanese-style interior or garden setting. Size Height: 28.7 cm Width: 25.5 cm Depth: 25.5 cm Condition This piece shows overall age-related patina, surface rust, scuffs, staining, and wear consistent with its antique status; the base has been repaired, and general signs of age and use are present throughout. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
