Idochawan Mei:Kajitsu 井戸茶碗 銘:佳日 (いどちゃわん めい:かじつ) | Kyo Zenkyo 景善教 (きょうぜんきょう) Ido tea bowls were originally fired as everyday vessels during the Joseon dynasty in the 16th century. When brought to Japan, tea masters such as Sen no Rikyu recognized them as the pinnacle of "wabi-sabi." The basic coloring ranges from pale yellow to beige, resembling a ripe loquat, produced through oxidative firing of the glaze. A characteristic feature is the "kairagi" (plum flower skin) around the foot of the bowl, where the glaze shrinks and hardens into granules. This piece includes the name "Kajitsu" (meaning an auspicious or celebratory day) inscribed on the box by Fukumoto Sekio, a high-ranking priest of Daitoku-ji Temple.
