Hindu Messing Glocke mit Hanuman, dem Affengott, Griff

A fine Hindu bell bell made of brass, featuring a carinated body with a flange to the shoulder. The handle is modelled in the form of Hanuman, the monkey god, with its tail looped around the head. The half-monkey, half-human god is depicted wearing an elaborate crown, jewellery, and clothes engraved with geometric decoration around the waist and hips. His hands are clasped in prayer, and eyes closed, while a foliage motif extends from the ears to shoulders, and from the hips to the feet. When stood on a flat surface, the figure leans slightly right. The clapper is no longer inside the bell, and the object has some dark patina and scratches. The bell would have been used in religious practices and as a decorative item, symbolising good fortune, devotion, strength, and wisdom. The ringing of the bell during worship is believed to focus the mind, create positive energy, and call for divine protection. Hanuman is a revered Hindu deity, depicted as a divine vanara (a monkey or ape-like being) and a central figure in the Ramayana epic, known for his strength, bravery, and unwavering devotion to Lord Rama. He possesses supernatural abilities and is considered a symbol of selflessness, strength, and loyalty in Hinduism. Worshipped throughout India and beyond, Hanuman is often depicted standing erect like a human in temples and shrines. Measurements (circa): H 21cm x W 9cm Provenance: From the Jeffrey Romer important collection of Hindu art, 1990s. Ex central London gallery.
