Teeschale - Steinzeug - Tobeyaki Tenmoku Chawan

Item Description This exquisite chawan (tea bowl) is a work of Tobeyaki pottery — a traditional ceramic art from Tobe Town, Ehime Prefecture, designated as a Japanese National Traditional Craft. This is a signed, artist-made piece from the Teizangama kiln (Iwata Seitousho), one of the established workshops of the Tobeyaki Cooperative Association. The bowl is covered in a rich, deep iron-black glaze (tenmoku-style) that shimmers with scattered yellow-green speckles reminiscent of a star-filled night sky — an effect known as "yuteki" (oil-spot), where mineral crystals rise to the surface during high-temperature firing, creating an otherworldly, luminous appearance. The rim is adorned with a warm iron-red band that transitions seamlessly into the dark body glaze, lending the piece elegant warmth and depth. The interior is equally mesmerizing: the same dark tenmoku glaze coats the full inner surface, alive with golden-green speckled crystals that catch and reflect light beautifully — ideal for appreciating the color and foam of whisked matcha. The foot ring (kodai) is left unglazed, revealing the pale cream-white stoneware body beneath. The piece is accompanied by its original signed wooden box (tomobako), inscribed with "Tobeyaki Chawan" and bearing the artist's signature with a red seal. The underside of the bowl bears the impressed "Teizansou" seal mark. Size Height: 7 cm Width: 12.5 cm Depth: 12.5 cm Weight 261 g Condition The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs; the glaze is vivid and intact throughout, and the wooden storage box is clean and undamaged. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
