Franz Xaver Bergman - Tintenfass - Bronze
An authentic Austrian Cold-Painted Bronze inkwell from the Belle Époque era, produced by the Franz Xaver Bergman foundry in Vienna.
The piece features a beautifully hand-painted bird, likely a quail or partridge, resting on a fringed Oriental carpet.
The overall design is well-preserved, with the bird’s paint showing only minor chipping, and the overall color is vibrant and well-kept.
On the carpet surface next to the bird, the official Bergman "B" inside a double-handled urn foundry mark.
On the underside, it is stamped on three corners:
One corner is marked with "GESCHÜTZT, OESTERREJCH, DEUTSCHLAND, F.BERGM", & the model number "459".
Another corner repeats the "Geschützt" with "459", and a third corner is marked with 60 B.
The underside features a bright nickel-plated finish with some light surface scratches.
Structurally, the inkwell is sound with no breakage. The hinge of the bird’s head works perfectly, opening to reveal the reservoir. Regarding the finish, there is a small red smear located next to the hinge and under the tail; it is unclear if this is a later smear or part of the original undercoat.
