Byzantinische / Kreuzzugszeit Bronze-Signet-Ring mit punktierter Inschrift Ring (Ohne mindestpreis)

A remarkable and authentic Byzantine to Crusader period bronze signet ring, dating approximately from the 11th–13th century AD, a time of intense cultural exchange and conflict between East and West. This substantial ring features a broad oval bezel engraved with a finely executed dotted inscription, arranged in a cross-like composition. The dotted technique—carefully punched into the surface—was commonly used in the medieval Eastern Mediterranean, particularly in Byzantine and Crusader contexts, to create symbolic inscriptions, devotional marks, or personal identifiers. The central motif appears structured around a cross-form layout, possibly reflecting Christian devotional significance, typical of rings worn by soldiers, pilgrims, or officials during the Crusader presence in the Levant. Such rings often served both as personal seals and as expressions of faith and identity. The ring displays a beautiful, untouched archaeological patina, with deep green and earthy tones that testify to its great age and authenticity. The surface wear and mineralization further enhance its historical character. Material: Bronze Period: Byzantine / Crusader era, ca. 11th–13th century AD Bezel: Oval, with dotted inscription and cross-like arrangement Condition: Intact and wearable; heavy patina, signs of age and burial During the Crusader era, rings like this were not merely decorative—they were deeply personal objects. They could function as seals, amulets, or symbols of allegiance and faith, often carried by individuals moving between Byzantine and Latin worlds. The dotted inscription style reflects a fusion of artistic traditions, making this piece a tangible witness to a complex historical period. Strong cross symbolism linked to Crusader / Byzantine Christianity Rare dotted inscription technique Excellent display presence, especially with its sculptural bezel Beautifully preserved authentic patina
