Ink Bamboo (Boku Chiku Zu / 墨竹図) - Dainen (第年) - Japan - Spätes Edo–Frühes Meiji (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: Ink Bamboo (Boku Chiku Zu / 墨竹図) Artist: Dainen (第年) Technique: Hand-painted ink painting Artist Signature and Seals Dimensions: 59.8 × 11.6 cm (23.54 × 4.57 in) Material: Ink on silk Date: Late Edo – Early Meiji era (c. 1860–1890) This is a Nanga (文人画) ink bamboo painting by Dainen (第年), a literati painter active in late Edo to early Meiji Japan (19th century). Painted in ink on silk, the work depicts several elegant stalks of bamboo, accompanied by a classical poetic inscription, signature, and seals. It represents a classic example of Japanese Nanga, part of the literati painting tradition. Dainen (第年) was a literati painter active from the late Edo through the Meiji era (c. 1830s–1880s, mid-19th century). His full biography remains unrecorded. The bamboo is rendered with free, fluent brushwork; the leaves show subtle variations in ink tone — dark, light, dry, and wet — creating clear layers and a refined, graceful atmosphere. The composition is simple and sparse, in a typical vertical hanging scroll format, characteristic of the Nanga (文人画) style, emphasizing scholarly elegance and quiet taste. Poetic Inscription: 蕭幌千竿秀,文生四絕名。翠華煙裏淡,風葉欲搖聲。 Behind the curtain a thousand stalks stand graceful; the scholar’s fame rests on four accomplishments. Amid mist the green blooms fade soft; wind in leaves seems to stir sound. Signature & Seal Details: At the lower left, the artist signed in cursive script Dainen (第年). Above the signature is a square red seal reading Dainen (第年), the artist’s art name seal, which confirms the signature. Below the signature is an oval red seal reading Chikusō (竹窗), a common studio name used by Japanese literati painters. It matches the bamboo theme well and follows the typical convention of literati painting. Condition: With old mounting. Due to age, the silk shows natural aging, discoloration, foxing, and minor repairs. Overall in good condition for its age. Due to service suspension, Taiwan Post EMS has suspended parcel delivery to the following countries starting March 10, 2026: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Israel, Pakistan, Maldives, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Greece, Egypt, Morocco.
