A wonderful Gouda pottery vase in the "Emmy" pattern, made by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH), Gouda, Netherlands. The Emmy pattern is one of their classic Art Nouveau designs. Based on the specific markings and the style of the decor, this piece dates to approximately 1920–1930. The base is marked: EMMY / house logo / GN / 812 / Gouda / Holland. The shape is a full-bodied pear form with a flared neck and a brown glazed rim. The hand-painted decoration covers the main body with a rich, symmetrical pattern of flowing leaf and teardrop motifs outlined in bright orange, set against a deep blue ground with panels of ochre yellow and earthy terracotta. Mint green teardrops are inside the larger motifs and a band of small dots and arches runs around the shoulder. The neck and base are finished in matte olive green. The glaze has the matte finish associated with PZH pieces made after 1910. The condition is lovely. No chips, cracks, or breaks. There is one small chip on the underside of the bottom rim, completely invisible when the vase is displayed. Overall it looks really nice.
