Arabia - Olga Osol - Kaffee- und Teeservice (20) - Horn
Vintage Arabia floral porcelain service parts,
* The Design Style: The "swirl" fluted relief on ivory porcelain was very popular in Finland during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It reflects a transition from traditional European "Old World" styles to the cleaner lines of Mid-Century Scandinavian design.
* This ensemble captures the essence of mid-century Nordic romanticism.
The service is characterized by its "swirl" or fluted relief pattern, which adds a tactile,
sculptural dimension to the porcelain. Each piece is adorned with a deep magenta or
burgundy floral spray, lending a timeless, cottage-core aesthetic to any table setting.
* Set Details & Dimensions
The service is perfectly proportioned for an intimate afternoon tea or a formal coffee gathering:
1.Creamer and sugar bowl - are features a graceful swan-neck spout, a sophisticated scrolled handle, and a matching lid topped with a classic finial.
2.Six Tea Cups: Dainty yet functional, measuring 5 cm in height with a 9 cm diameter. The cups feature a beautiful interior floral detail and an ornate, gilded loop handle.
3.Six Saucers: 13 cm in diameter, designed with a deep well to hold the cups securely, following the elegant fluted rim design.
4.Six Cake Plates: 17 cm in diameter, the perfect size for pastries or light desserts, completing the "trio" setting for each guest.
*NB! I am currently auctioning a second matching part of this service in a separate lot with another 6 trio and the Tea/ Coffee Pot.
Please check my other active auctions to complete the set!
* Condition & Craftsmanship:
The bottom stamps confirm its origin: "ARABIA – Made in Finland." The ivory porcelain is known for its durability and soft luster, which provides a warmer, more inviting backdrop than stark white china. The gold trim remains a bright highlight, framing the delicate floral artwork.
Exelent condition - seems, it was not in use!
* Historical Context
During this era, Arabia was the largest ceramics factory in Europe. Designers like Olga Osol were famous for creating these types of romantic, ivory-toned services (like the famous Myrna pattern) which became staples in Finnish households for Sunday coffee and special celebrations.
This set is a classic example of this "Golden Age" of Finnish porcelain, combining the durability of industrial production with the delicate hand-finished feel of the gold rims and floral transfers.
