Muller Frères - freres Muller Luneville - Tischlampe - Glas, Messing - Tischlampe

Art Nouveau / early Art Deco table lamp with signed glass shade by Muller Frères Lunéville, France, early 20th century. The lamp features a large mottled glass bowl shade signed “Muller Frères Lunéville”, produced by the well-known French art glassmakers active in Lunéville and associated with the École de Nancy artistic tradition. The Muller family became renowned for their Art Nouveau and early Art Deco glass production, particularly lampshades and decorative art glass objects. The shade displays a characteristic mottled / marbled glass effect, typical of decorative lighting produced by the workshop during the early decades of the 20th century. The glass bowl is mounted on a decorative metal base with floral Art Nouveau ornamentation. The base is made of a heavy cast metal (possibly brass or bronze) with a warm golden tone and stylised vegetal decoration typical of the Art Nouveau period. Based on stylistic characteristics and construction, the metal base may originate from Central European production, possibly Austria, Germany or the Bohemian region (present-day Czech Republic), areas that were important centres for Jugendstil / Art Nouveau metalwork around 1900–1915. Lamps produced in these regions frequently feature cast brass bases with symmetrical floral motifs and circular footed supports similar to this example. The current configuration appears to be a later assembly, where a Muller Frères shade—possibly originally intended for a hanging lamp or ceiling fixture—has been adapted to a table lamp base. Such adaptations are relatively common with early 20th-century art glass lighting elements. Despite this later configuration, the piece retains a strong decorative presence and illustrates the aesthetic of the transition from Art Nouveau to early Art Deco lighting design in the first decades of the 20th century. The lamp shows normal signs of age and use consistent with its period. The glass shade is in good condition with no visible cracks. Minor wear and patina are present on the metal base. The electrical wiring appears to have been replaced at some point and the lamp was working at the time of this description; however, as with all antique lighting, no guarantee can be given on the electrical installation.
