The oil lamp has a pear-shaped or ovoid body with a wide channel connecting the central disc to the spout. The central disc features a rosette with several petals, a classic floral motif in the pottery of this period. The shoulders are decorated with a palm or ear-of-wheat motif, which often symbolised victory or had religious connotations in the early Christian context.
Provenance: Former Dutch private collection Mejns and private collection Aachen, acquired between 1970 and 1990; acquired at auction Gorny & Mosch, Germany, 2025.
