Großer antiker tibetischer Vajra (Dorje) aus Silber – mit Türkis und Koralle eingelegt – 186,15 g - Silber - Nepal - 20. Jahrhundert
This is a magnificent and heavy Tibetan ritual Vajra (also known as a Dorje), handcrafted in silver with a rich, natural dark patina. Measuring approximately 14.5 cm in length and weighing a substantial 186.15 grams, this piece is a significant example of Himalayan Buddhist art.
The Vajra is elaborately decorated with intricate filigree and hand-chased foliate scrollwork. It is richly inlaid with authentic, natural turquoise (showing a beautiful geological matrix) and red coral cabochons. The construction shows traditional joinery and authentic signs of hand-tooling, consistent with an early to mid-20th-century origin.
In Buddhist symbolism, the Vajra represents the "diamond-hard" power of enlightenment and the indestructible nature of reality. A piece of this size and weight was likely used in a temple context or by a dedicated practitioner.
