Romilly à Paris 1760 - Verge Pocket Watch - Vor 1850

This is an authentic late 18th century French pocket watch signed “Romilly à Paris”, dating approximately to c.1760–1780, from the period of the Parisian watchmaker Jean Romilly (1714–1796). Jean Romilly was a respected master watchmaker in Paris and is known for his work alongside leading figures such as Pierre Le Roy and Ferdinand Berthoud. Watches bearing “Romilly à Paris” are associated with this period of French horology. Condition: The watch is in working condition. The movement runs and the watch winds with a key. Damage / Wear: • Visible wear and abrasion to the hinge/clasp area on the front cover (see photos) • General age-related surface wear consistent with age (over 200 years) • No major dents to the case • Original enamel dial with minor age-related marks Restorations: • No known restorations • Movement appears original Alterations: • No known alterations • Case tested as 18K gold by a jeweller (no visible hallmarks) • Chain is gold plated and not original to the watch Additional Information: • Verge escapement movement • Key-wind mechanism • Diameter: approx. 50–52 mm • Total weight: 81.88g (including movement) Gold Content (Estimate): Based on the total weight of 81.88g (including movement), the gold case is estimated to weigh approximately 25–37 grams. As the case has been tested as 18K gold (75% purity), this corresponds to roughly 19–28 grams of pure gold. Please note this is an estimate, as the movement and internal components are not gold. An honest and collectible example of an early French gold pocket watch from the era of Jean Romilly.
