Hocker - Eiche - Drehhocker

Antique European Swivel Stool, circa 1925 A handsome antique swivel stool in solid oak, European in origin and found in the Netherlands. Though its exact country of manufacture remains uncertain (but found in Netherlands), the piece has all the qualities one hopes for in a good utilitarian design: strong proportion, honest construction, and character that only comes with age and use. The form is simple but beautifully resolved. The round seat rests on a functioning central screw mechanism, supported by four tapering legs that give the stool a stable, grounded stance. That widening base, together with the solid stretcher construction, makes the piece notably sturdy. It was clearly made to last, and still feels reassuringly robust today. The swivel system remains in good working order, adding a practical and sculptural quality to the design. The wood has been cleaned and nourished, bringing back warmth and depth to the surface while preserving the stool’s age. It is an especially attractive piece for an artist’s studio, atelier, or creative interior, where it can be functional as well as elegant because of the charming silhouette. At the same time, it works beautifully as an accent piece in many different interior styles. Estimated to date from ca 1925. A well-made, enduring stool with a distinctly honest presence, modest in spirit but full of charm. Condition Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Swivel mechanism in good working order. Wood cleaned and nourished (French Bees wax) Old crack to the seat touched up. Structurally sound and sturdy overall. Height adjustable between 55 cm (lowest to ca 70 cm) Seat itself is 35 cm diameter. At base 42 x 42 cm
