A restrung Ancient Roman necklace formed from green glass beads. The body of the necklace is comprised of rounded and tubular beads, alternating with smaller disc-shaped and tubular beads, of varying shades of green. A centrepiece is formed from a stack of six beads, beginning with an ovoid tubular bead, followed by a rounded bead, a long, tubular bead, a rounded bead, a large cylindrical bead, and terminating in a hoop bead, through which the necklace is thread. Each glass bead displays a unique shape, hue and translucency, reflecting their antique and hand-crafted nature. Please note this necklace is unclasped and threaded on a string. Some pitting and abrasions to the surface. Such necklaces testify to the popularity of glass ornaments across the Roman Empire. The mass production of glass in Ancient Rome prompted the development of glass jewellery. The ageing process of glass endows Roman glass jewellery with unique qualities.
