Bronzezeit Bronze Tierfigur (Ohne mindestpreis)
A Bronze Age bronze stylised quadruped figurine, likely a horse, or a bull featuring a thin body, short legs and a tail which points downwards. The head displays triangular ears pointing upwards, and an elongated triangular-shaped skull. The remnants of a suspension loop survive on the back of the figurine, suggesting amuletic use. Patina, earthly encrustations, and signs of wear to the surface, as consistent with age, such as scratches, pitting, and chipping. The front left leg is slightly bent.
Animals are a recurring motif in Bronze Age art and metalwork. The prevalence and intricacy of horse depictions, as well as horse equipment, in Bronze Age bronzes implies a great significance of the animal in the culture. The manufacturers of the these bronzes, though unknown, are widely understood to have been a nomadic people, and horses would have played a crucial role in almost every aspect of life, including transport, warfare, agriculture and religion.
Measurements: (circa) L 4cm x H 2.5cm
Provenance: Ex London Collection, formed between 1990-present.
