Val Saint Lambert - Charles Graffart & René Delvenne - Vase - TORÉADOR – ART DECO – 1940er Jahre - Kristall - UNTERZEICHNET

Val Saint Lambert Crystal Vase “Toreador” – Ruby Overlay Cut Crystal, 1940s, C.P. 124 A striking Art Deco crystal vase by Val Saint Lambert, dating to the 1940s and belonging to the documented “Toreador” model range. This design appears in the factory catalogue under reference C.P. 124, confirming both the model and the specific cutting pattern. Executed in richly coloured overlay crystal, the vase features a deep ruby layer cut through to clear crystal, creating a dynamic geometric composition of sharp diamond and triangular facets. The contrast between the intense colour and the brilliant transparency enhances the play of light, giving the piece exceptional depth and vibrancy. The form is bold and architectural, with a slightly flared rim and a structured lower section, perfectly reflecting the refined decorative language of late Art Deco design. Different cutting variations of the “Toreador” model are known, making this C.P. 124 version a clearly identifiable and documented example. The base bears an engraved Val Saint Lambert signature, further supporting authenticity, alongside the catalogue reference. Condition: In overall good vintage condition. A chip is present on one of the cut facets (clearly visible in the photos). A strong and decorative piece of Belgian Art Deco glassmaking, equally suitable as a functional vase or as a collectible display object. Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks. The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp. The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics. Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation. Will be carefully packaged, well protected and insured
