This period derives its name from an archaeological site situated on the northern shore of Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland, where thousands of artifacts were unearthed after the lake's water level receded in 1857. Emerging after Greek and Etruscan influences, the La Tène culture succeeded the Hallstatt culture and marked the zenith of Celtic dominance. La Tène Celts spread across much of Europe, influencing regions from Britain to the Balkans. It was distinguished by the construction of hill forts, lavish burials, and highly skilled craftsmanship. La Tène is famous for its intricate and fluid designs, often featuring swirling patterns, stylized animals, and abstract forms. These motifs were applied to metalwork, pottery, jewellery, and weapons. Skilled artisans crafted iron and bronze tools, weapons, and ornaments. The Celts of the La Tène society were fiercely warlike and structured in a hierarchical system, with kings, a priestly class (Druids), warriors, farmers, and slaves.
