Radionette Kurér - 1950s Mid-Century Modern Röhrenradio

Radionette Kurér Portable Tube Radio – Red Crocodile Leather Finish – Norway – 1950s Tested and Working – In excellent condition – No reserve. A highly collectible and iconic mid-century portable tube radio: the famous Radionette Kurér, produced in Norway during the 1950s by the renowned manufacturer Radionette, founded by Jan Wessel in Oslo. This large model is celebrated for its distinctive suitcase-style design, elegant rounded lines, and luxurious red crocodile-pattern imitation leather covering. The brass-toned carry handle fittings, original woven speaker grille, and beautifully detailed world-band dial make this piece an exceptional example of Scandinavian postwar industrial design. The Kurér became a true Norwegian cultural icon, especially known for use in cabins and homes during the 1950s, appreciated for both its portability and excellent reception. Designed for operation on both mains power and battery, it reflects the transition period between domestic radio furniture and modern portable electronics. This example retains its original interior label, factory schematic on the removable back panel, original tubes, and the historical pricing sticker showing the original retail price of 388 Norwegian kroner—a wonderful provenance detail for collectors. The radio has been tested and is in working condition, which significantly enhances its desirability for collectors and vintage audio enthusiasts alike. A true eye-catcher for collectors of vintage design, Scandinavian modernism, and early portable electronics. Dimensions: 26 x 35.5 x 15 cm (h x w x d) Weight: Approx. 4.2 kg Materials: Wood, metal, bakelite, textile speaker grille, faux crocodile leather covering Condition: In very good vintage condition with beautiful original patina. The cabinet presents exceptionally well with only minor signs of age and use consistent with its period. Interior remains remarkably clean and complete with original tube setup and labels intact. Original back panel present. Tested and working. A rare and well-preserved collector’s example. Disclaimer: Fully functional, but as with all vintage electrical items, a safety check by a qualified professional is recommended before use.
