Significance: Known for its striking appearance when sliced and polished, often exhibiting a Widmanstätten pattern.History: Native Americans used pieces of this meteorite to create tools and ornaments. Key Finds: A 1,000-pound (453.6 kg) mass was found in 1949, and a 650 kg fragment was found in 2005. Structure and CompositionBrenham is a pallasite, which is a rare type of stony-iron meteorite. These are believed to have originated from the mantle-core boundary of a differentiated planetesimal or small protoplanet in the early solar system. The olivine crystals, ranging from dark green to yellow, are often gem-quality, and the metal matrix contains roughly 8.5% nickel.
