Rare Georgian Sterling Silver Sauce Boat, London 1765
Presenting an exceptional Georgian solid sterling silver sauce or cream boat, crafted in London, 1765.
This piece is a fine example of 18th-century silverwork, raised on three elegant hoof feet with distinctive “shell” shoulders.
Richly adorned with intricate repoussé, embossed, and chased floral and foliate motifs, this boat features a beautifully undulating rim, a finely rendered cartouche, and an acanthus-detailed flying C-scroll handle.
The piece bears the initials of a past owner, lending an additional layer of historical charm.
Hallmarks:
Marked with full, clear London hallmarks: the lion passant, leopard’s head, date letter, and a rare maker’s mark “SM.”
Gilt Interior:
The interior is gilded "in vermeil", a luxurious touch of gold over silver.
