This pioneering B-B electric locomotive was built from 1920 onwards for freight train and pusher service on the demanding mountain route Freilassing–Berchtesgaden. Its articulated running gear and jackshaft drive made it a progressive design for its era. Both prototype units remained in service throughout the Deutsche Bundesbahn period, not retiring until 1950 and 1951.
