Only some images are selected. Sambo is a gag strip whose central themes were mostly racially insensitive stereotypes. The main character was Sambo, a neighborhood pre-adolescent who had a habit of getting into comic trouble. The distasteful portrayals of Sambo's attitude and speech were intended to add humor. Close to 100 years after their printing, those portrayals are shockingly insensitive. Each page of Sambo is a view into an era of racial ignorance which should never happen again.
