VINIFICATION
After manual harvesting and careful selection of bunches, the grapes ferment at a controlled temperature in 5000 L French oak vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in first and second-year French oak barrels, where the wine aged for a further 18 months. After selecting the best barrels, it was bottled and rested in the bottle until its release.
TASTING NOTES
Ruby-colored wine with considerable concentration. On the nose, it is deep and complex, suggesting aromas of spices, wildflowers, macerated wild berries, and fresh notes of dehydrated orange. The palate follows the profile of the nose, being dense and full-bodied, with hints of chocolate and graphite well-integrated into a whole that finishes long, with solid and polished tannins.
SERVING
A wine with Alentejo character, solid and refined, that calls for typical and elaborate dishes at the table. A selection of strong cheeses, roast lamb or kid, or even a traditional Portuguese stew are certainly good suggestions for this red wine. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC.
HISTORY
Opened in 2007, Adega Mayor is the winemaking company of the Nabeiro Group.
Signed by Siza Vieira, it became the first signature winery in Portugal.
Extending over an area of 350 hectares of cork oak forests, riverside galleries and agricultural fields, Adega Mayor benefits from the Mediterranean ecosystem and an agricultural region with a strong tradition of vineyard and olive grove cultivation.
Between the Herdades das Argamassas, Godinha and Monte da Pina, in Campo Maior, the wines produced here are of unique character – a result of the granite conditions of the soil, the temperate climate and the geographic proximity of the Serra de São Mamede.
In addition to wine production, the brand also sells other food products such as olive oil and vinegar, providing gastronomic and cultural experiences in an integrated wine tourism offer.
Adega Mayor undertakes the mission of celebrating Portuguese life and culture, through wines and people, with a commitment to handing over to the next generations a land better than the one we inherited.
