Issued from 1959 to 1969, the 5 Franc Semeuse coin have a mintage of more than 195 million pieces! The coin was part of the country's standard currency circulation and was issued in Silver until 1969, when the 5-franc coins were made in nickel from that date onward due to the surge in silver prices. The engraving is by Louis-Oscar Roty, usually known as O. Roty, and the title shows the words "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE." The Republic is represented by a sower wearing a Phrygian cap and dressed in antique style. A sunrise can be seen in the background, along with the artist's name.
