An exceptionally elegant and increasingly rare Danish design post-war tabletop tube radio, the TO-R Mars 147 “Allstrom”, manufactured by TO-R Radio A/S in Denmark during the late 1940s. This model is a beautiful example of early Scandinavian modern industrial design, combining soft aerodynamic lines with warm veneered bentwood craftsmanship. The radio features a richly toned walnut/mahogany veneered cabinet with gracefully curved sides, original woven speaker cloth, and distinctive ivory-colored ribbed Bakelite control knobs. The illuminated tuning dial is particularly decorative, displaying numerous historical European broadcasting stations in finely detailed typography. Produced in the immediate post-war era, the Mars 147 reflects the transition from pre-war Art Deco influences toward the cleaner and more functional Scandinavian modern aesthetic that would later define Danish design internationally. The rear panel remains complete and clearly marked, including original Danish factory text and connection points for antenna, grounding, gramophone input, and external loudspeaker. Internally, the chassis retains its original vacuum tube configuration and large dynamic speaker.
