General Electric Company Ltd. -1946 - Bakelite Röhrenradio

G.E.C. BC 4650 Bakelite Valve Radio – LW/MW/SW – England – c. 1946 In excellent tested and working condition – No reserve. A highly attractive and increasingly collectible post-war large British Bakelite valve radio manufactured by G.E.C. (General Electric Company Ltd. of England) during the late 1940s. The elegant streamlined cabinet with its distinctive horizontal louvred speaker grille reflects the transition from pre-war Art Deco styling into the early Mid-Century Modern era. This large G.E.C. BC 4650 is executed in beautifully marbled dark brown Bakelite with a warm gloss patina and an illuminated multi-band tuning scale displaying numerous international broadcasting stations from the golden age of radio. The design is both architectural and sculptural, making it an exceptional decorative statement piece as well as a functional historic radio receiver. The set is equipped with Long Wave, Medium Wave, and Short Wave reception and retains its original rear panel with aerial, earth, pick-up, and external speaker connections. Inside, the radio still houses its period British valve configuration, including original G.E.C./Osram components. An excellent collector’s example of post-war British industrial design and radio engineering. Technical details Manufacturer: G.E.C. – General Electric Co.
