Antikes Judäa Bronze Erste Jüdische Revolte Prutah (Ohne mindestpreis)

Judaea, First Jewish Revolt – Bronze Prutah, Year 2, 67–68 CE – VF+ Specifications Material: Bronze Diameter: 14–15.8 mm Weight: 2.44 g Die axis: 3h Reference: Hendin 1360 Bronze prutah struck in Jerusalem during Year 2 of the First Jewish Revolt against Rome, corresponding to 67–68 CE. This small but historically powerful coin was issued by the Jewish rebel authorities during one of the defining moments of Judaean history, when Jerusalem sought political, religious, and symbolic independence from Roman rule. Obverse: Amphora with broad rim and handles, surrounded by the ancient Hebrew inscription שנת שתים — “Year Two.” The amphora may symbolize ritual purity, temple service, storage, or abundance, all deeply resonant themes in Jerusalem’s sacred and civic life. Reverse: Vine leaf on branch, surrounded by the inscription חרות ציון — “Freedom of Zion.” The vine leaf was a strong emblem of Judaea, fertility, and the land of Israel. Combined with the revolutionary slogan, it transforms the coin into a compact declaration of national resistance and hope. The use of ancient Hebrew script, rather than Greek or Latin, was itself a deliberate cultural and political statement. These coins rejected Roman imperial language and imagery, replacing portraits of emperors with symbols tied to the Temple, the land, and Jewish identity. Issued only a few years before the Roman destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple in 70 CE, this prutah is a direct witness to the revolt and to the final years of Temple-era Judaea. Its dark patina and earthen deposits add to its archaeological character and visual authenticity. Condition: VF+ with a dark, stable patina and light earthen deposits, enhancing the coin’s historical presence. Provenance: Ex-European private collection, formed in the 1980s. A certificate of authenticity is available in PDF format upon request. Please review the photographs carefully. The images are highly magnified to show the details; the coin presents with strong historical character in hand.
