The red “Lucente” combines the structure of Sangiovese, with its strong and sometimes slightly edgy character, with the fruity softness and mellow roundness of Merlot, a grape that was only recently introduced to Montalcino but has immediately proven to adapt well to the climate and terroir of this precious hill in the province of Siena. “Lucente” is made from a selection of grapes from the best vineyards: the Merlot is usually harvested in early September, while the Sangiovese is harvested at the end of the month. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28°C, with maceration on the skins for about twenty days. The wine ages for 12 months in barriques, some new and some previously used, and completes its aging in bottle.
