Yixing “Gong Ju” (貢局) Marked Teapot for the Thai Market China, Qing dynasty 19th century A Yixing stoneware teapot and cover, produced in the characteristic reddish-purple clay and destined for the Thai export market, where such wares were often further finished and adapted. The teapot is of compact globular form, rising from a slightly lipped foot to a matching lipped mouth. The surface is highly polished to a glossy sheen, a treatment typically associated with specialised workshops in Bangkok, where Yixing wares were traditionally finished and fitted with metal mounts. The vessel is equipped with a brass hinged overhead handle, reflecting this regional adaptation and export tradition. The base is incised with the mark: 貢局 (Gong Ju) This mark is associated with export production for official or commercial channels and is found on a group of polished Yixing wares made specifically for the Southeast Asian market.
