Deep Bowl - Töpferware - Vietnam - Later Lê Dynastie (1428–1788)

Large Polychrome Enamelled Deep Bowl Vietnam, Lê dynasty, 15th–16th century A rare and impressive deep bowl decorated in vivid polychrome enamels characteristic of early Vietnamese ceramic production of the Lê dynasty. The steeply curving exterior walls are painted in iron red, green, and yellow enamels with stylised floral and leafy sprays, framed between iron-red and underglaze-blue bands. The interior is decorated near the rim with a floral border, while the centre of the well retains the typical unglazed firing ring, characteristic of kiln practices of the period. The recessed base and foot rim are also left unglazed, with original firing spur marks still visible on the foot rim. The bowl reflects the refined craftsmanship associated with the celebrated Chu Đậu kilns of northern Vietnam, one of the most important ceramic production centres of the 15th and 16th centuries. Chu Đậu wares were widely exported across Asia and beyond, admired for their elegant forms and distinctive combination of underglaze blue and overglaze enamel decoration. Polychrome examples of this scale are comparatively rare. A very similar large polychrome bowl was offered at Bonhams: https://www.bonhams.com/auction/24265/lot/869/a-deep-bowl-with-polychrome-enamel-decoration-le-dynasty-16th-century-the-decoration-possibly-later/ Dimensions: H 14.8 × W 15.5 cm Condition: Overall in good condition. Five hairlines to the rim, a firing flaw in the centre of the well, wear, minor scratches, and accumulated dirt consistent with age. Please examine the images carefully. Small imperfections and kiln-firing flaws are not always described in detail. The written condition report is indicative only; the photographs provide the definitive and binding description of the item’s condition. Shipping: The item will be securely packed and shipped with insurance, without stand or dollhouse vase.
