Vishnu-Statue - Messing - Indien - 17.–18. Jahrhundert
This is a small bronze statue in the South Indian style, featuring Vishnu as the main deity. It is a typical example of a small household deity statue used in Hindu folk worship.
Main Deity: Vishnu (God of Protection)
Archives and Mudras: The upper left hand holds a Sudarshana Chakra, and the upper right hand holds a Shankha (conch shell), these are Vishnu's two most central symbols; the right hand forms the Abhaya Mudra, symbolizing the elimination of fear and the bestowal of peace upon all beings; the left hand holds a jewel, a symbol of bestowing blessings. This small statue is a common form of daily offering for Hindu believers. Vishnu, as one of the three principal deities, is considered the embodiment of protection and order, and worshipping him is believed to bring protection and good fortune.
Details: The figure wears a tall South Indian-style crown and traditional Indian clothing with simple lines in the drapery. The facial features are soft, typical of South Indian folk sculpture.
Made of brass, its surface has a warm, lustrous patina, exhibiting a deep brown, antique color—a natural oxidation layer formed over long periods of worship or storage. Height: 6.5cm
