Stehleuchte - Eiche, Makassar-Ebenholz - Stehlampe

Constructivist Outsider Art Floor Lamp in Wood with Coromandel Details A bit of a mystery as to maker and age, this striking self-made ''outsider art'' floor lamp in wood, with a strongly architectural, constructivist character. The lamp is built from vertical wooden elements rising from a stepped base, with additional block-shaped cormandel details in different sizes and proportions. The darker wood is creating a subtle but effective contrast against the warmer oak. The decoration is concentrated on one side of the base, giving the lamp interesting asymmetry. The design has a wonderful outsider-art quality. It is not a factory piece, but a handmade object with a personal and sculptural logic. The composition plays with height, rhythm, blocks, recesses and dark accents, giving it a strong decorative presence. It has something of Dutch interwar modernism, Constructivism and Art Deco in spirit, though interpreted in a very individual way. At the top, the lamp has four wooden brackets to hold a lampshade. The marbled shade currently shown with the lamp has been fitted on this lamp but was originally a pendant lamp shade. It does fit well and gives the lamp a funky look, it can be included if desired. Condition: Good vintage condition with signs of age and use. The lamp is handmade and shows irregularities, marks, wear consistent with age and construction. It stands stable and the wiring is working. The marbled shade shown in the photos can be included. Material: wood, coromandel details, electrical fitting. Style: Constructivist / outsider art / Art Deco-inspired. Object type: floor lamp. Period: probably mid-20th century. Could be earlier. Shipping / collection: Due to the size and shape of the lamp, pick-up is preferred. Shipping is more difficult but can be arranged at extra cost. Please contact us after the auction to discuss transport options.
