Marcin Pawlik - PROTOCOL 77 (Hand-painted picture)

Protocol 77 Artist: Marcin Pawlik Total dimensions: 74 x 51 cm, frame depth: 12 cm Edition: One-of-a-kind original artwork (UNIQUE 1/1) The subject of this auction is an exceptional, fully spatial artwork. It is a unique piece of art, created as a single, unrepeatable original, in which every minute detail of the composition is entirely hand-painted and crafted with the utmost attention to detail. Context and Artistic Merits The artwork presents a surreal, pop-art vision of cosmic chaos juxtaposed with absolute, almost provocative calmness. The main protagonist of this hand-painted scene is a "devil girl" in an astronaut helmet, carelessly swinging on a swing against an intense red background. Behind her, a spectacular catastrophe unfolds – a damaged rocket has forcefully split the moon in half. Despite the smoke and destruction, the figure remains completely unbothered, radiating distance and indifference. This intricately hand-painted graphic is a fascinating metaphor: we can find inner peace (or absolute ignorance) even when our world is literally splitting in two. Innovative Spatiality What distinguishes this piece from classical painting is its innovative form. The artwork is a spatial diorama enclosed in a solid box with a depth of as much as 12 cm. Inside, there is a multi-layered composition. The moon, the smoking rocket, and the figure on the swing are independent, separate elements superimposed on one another. All these cut-out layers are entirely hand-painted, which, combined with the physical depth of the picture, creates an incredible, almost theatrical 3D effect. Materials and Craftsmanship (Mixed Media) The entirety of this work is absolutely and completely handmade. The structure of the spatial elements is based on MDF board and styrofoam, onto which high-quality canvas has been carefully glued. Every centimeter of this canvas was then 100% hand-painted using an original mixed media technique – water-based paints, pigment inks, and classic acrylics were used to create the graphics. Both the cutting out of the individual layers and the application of colors are entirely manual processes. The artwork is completed by real screws scattered at the very bottom of the box, imitating the debris of the crashed rocket and adding a raw, slightly industrial character to this hand-painted composition. Summary This artwork is the result of many hours of labor, imagination, and precision. The piece is hand-painted, from the first sketch to the final detail of shading, and exists solely as a single, original copy. It is an ideal investment for collectors seeking uncompromising pop art that literally steps out of the frame toward the viewer.
