WWI French Trench Art Brass Lighter – "L'Angelus" & "Jeanne d'Arc" – c. 1914-1918 A rare historical gas lighter from the First World War period, made of solid brass/bronze in the shape of a pocket watch. This is a classic piece of patriotic trench art (Trench Art), specific to French troops. Dual Iconographic Details: Side A: Features a detailed bas-relief after the famous painting "L'Angélus" by Jean-François Millet, with the text L'ANGELUS engraved at the base. Side B: Depicts the profile of the French national heroine Joan of Arc in armor, framed by sunbeams in relief and the text JEANNE D'ARC. Aesthetic Condition: Very good for a military piece over 100 years old. The relief on both sides has been clearly preserved. The metal has an authentic, dark patina that has not been chemically cleaned to preserve its historical value.
