Raviolo
Ron Arad , 2011
Magis
Low chair.
Materials: polyethylene.
Suitable for outdoor use.
Colour : green pistacchio 1346 C
- NEW -
Ron Arad has established a highly recognizable style, largely dominated by curves, as evidenced by his Raviolo chair. This striking piece of furniture—a sculpture with playful forms—possesses a perfect, airy, and highly graphic line. Always striving to experiment with the capabilities of materials, Arad uses plastic in unconventional ways to achieve an incredible effect of lightness and flexibility. This single piece of polyethylene resembles a ribbon of soft, airy fabric whose sinuous curves create an incredibly fluid, continuous line, seemingly free in space.
The large opening lightens the structure, offering a playful interplay of perspectives. We love the originality of this changing form, which plays with solids and voids and evolves depending on the observer's viewpoint. The opening also serves as a handle for easy maneuvering. The exterior surface is adorned with raised striations reminiscent of waves leaving their mark on the sand.
Extremely comfortable, the generous and inviting shape of the Raviolo chair cradles the body. Everything you need for stylish relaxation! This Magis chair can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Raviolo was done by making a continuous looped ribbon with a defined inside
and outside texture that serve to make the continuous band more readable, and like
stuffed pasta the ribbon appears to be inflated. We did all that with a careful consideration of the easy release from the mould. We also confess that the overall final
shape owes a lot to the efforts to achieve this idea using different techniques. So
this time the rotational moulding was not just a cheap alternative to other moulding
techniques but the one that saved an idea that looked for another technology for a
long time.
