Japan - champlevé-style - 1900's - Tischlampe - Messing, Kupfer, Holz, Metall - Meiji/Taisho-Tafellampe

The lamp is comparable to 19th-century Japanese champlevé-style lamps and most likely dates from the late Meiji to early Taishō period, circa 1890–1920.Beautiful and unusual antique table lamp in an Asian, most likely Japanese Meiji/Taishō style. The lamp has a striking openwork hemispherical metal shade decorated with floral blossom motifs. The flowers and ornamental bands feature coloured champlevé/cloisonné enamel in shades of green, blue, turquoise, red, cream and brown. The stem and base are also decorated with enamelled ornamental bands and panels. The lamp is probably made of brass or bronze with enamel decoration and is mounted on a wooden base. It has a very decorative patina and an attractive aged appearance. This is a rare and highly decorative object, especially because the openwork metal shade is still present. Condition The lamp is in used antique condition with visible signs of age and wear. There is patina, oxidation, surface wear and enamel loss in several places, as shown in the photos. The wooden base may be a later addition. The electrical fitting, cord and plug are present. The lamp has been tested and works well. Due to its age, the electrical components are sold as present and functioning, without further safety guarantee. For long-term daily use, professional inspection or rewiring may still be recommended. Please study all photos carefully, as they form an important part of the description. Dating and origin Probably early 20th century, circa 1900–1930. Likely Japanese or Chinese export work in Meiji/Taishō style. No visible maker’s mark has been confirmed. Materials Brass or bronze, champlevé/cloisonné enamel, wood and electrical components.
