Antique Gothic Revival Brass Jewelry Casket / Reliquary Box - "Matching Numbers 48" - Erhard & Söhne style - Germany, c. 1890-1910 An exceptional and heavy antique Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic) jewelry casket or decorative reliquary box, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century (circa 1890–1910). This highly collectible piece is crafted from heavy solid brass and features an intricate, museum-quality iconographic program. - Front Panel: Depicts a continuous and beautifully detailed relief scene of the "Adoration of the Magi" (The Mystic Nativity), showing the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child, Saint Joseph, and the Three Wise Men presenting their gifts under ornate Gothic arches. - Lid & Back Panels: Feature religious scenes from the Life and Passion of Christ, including the Presentation at the Temple, the Road to Emmaus, and the Baptism of Christ. - Side Panels: Feature secular themes of Courtly Love (Amour Courtois), inspired by 14th-century Parisian ivory caskets. Scenes include the "Attack on the Castle of Love", knights jousting, and courtly musicians playing the lute and harp. - Interior Lid: Exquisitely decorated with a central geometric rosette medallion and stylized floral corner motifs against a fine stippled background. - Interior Base: Retains its original soft pinkish/salmon satin textile lining, used to protect valuable items. This dual stamping guarantees that the lid and the body are factory-original matching parts and have remained together since Excellent antique condition with no structural damage, cracks, or repairs. The hinges operate perfectly and the lid closes squarely. It retains a magnificent natural aged patina, with dark oxidation in the deep recesses providing a striking contrast to the polished high-relief details.
